It should not make any difference.
When your x50v is in native mode (i.e. without any "True VGA" hack), the display *is* VGA resolution, not QVGA, as you can see if you look closely to the fonts (you will not see the pixelling that you get on QVGA displays).
So Betaplayer and the other video players and image viewers will all take advantage of the VGA resolution in what you call QVGA mode (which, in fact, is really a VGA mode in which all the user interface elements have been zoomed-up to prevent them from appearing smaller).
