Whats the score with dell in the UK. (FAQ)

I went through the site and compiled this up to help people in the UK understand whatthe score is with Dell. It is a lot of money to spend on something you have very little control over, hopefully these will give peace of mind. If I've missed anything, please add it in. Thanks.

1. You can’t buy the Axim X50v from the UK Dell website for the following reasons that were given to me after I queried them a million times:

a) It’s in high demand so we have to manufacture them with a waiting time of 25 – 30 days of delivery.
b) There was a problem with the Axim x50v, the problem has been fixed so manufacturing of the product has started once again.

2. Should I purchase from the US, it’s on their website? I asked a representative and she said, if there was a problem with it, they would have to ship it to the US. Purchasing in the UK will give you a next day home technical service should you experience problems. Read this:

3. Is it guaranteed to be delivered within that time frame? Read here:

4. How much does it cost? It now ranges from £292 + VAT and Delivery AT A 15% DISCOUNT. Last quote date from sales rep was: (16 Feb 2005). This includes the UNIT itself with 1 year accidental damage warranty. Nothing else.

5. The price seems to shift up and down like a yoyo, is it going to come back down? Read this (Dell Deals):

6. If I purchase the unit and the price drops, can I get a refund on the difference? Probably not. The representative said that Prices will rise and fall, it depends when you purchase the unit. If they allowed refund differences they would have to pay “everyone” the difference back, which kills of the point of reducing units. Read:

7. Can I get it from anywhere else? Yes you can but you would probably end up paying a lot more and you’re not guaranteed to get it within the stated time.

8. Dell said they would put a priority on my order, coming to 25 days. Is this true? Probably not since they say 25 – 30 days. It’s actually stated in your confirmation order sheet.

9. Should I wait for bugs and fixes to be sorted before purchasing it? Dell (UK) state that bugs and fixes were applied, they don’t admit to new faults, so most likely you will end up getting a unit which is suffering from faults that people describe.

10. When will they fix bugs on the unit? They don’t admit to it having bugs, so… how long is a piece of string?

11. Well I can purchase the unit and cancel within the time limit of 30 days, and then 7 days upon receiving the unit right? As soon as you receive the order confirmation make sure you really want it, once you’ve been charged and no longer actually want it, there is a cancellation fee of £25. Read:

12. I am reading contradicting posts on Dell, what’s the score? It seems like you’re going to get different responses at different time from Dell. They have outsourced the call centre to India and these guys were given instructions on what to say, they won’t budge if you don’t push them. It’s always best to ring up and get answers for yourself.
