It's frustrating, but that's by design. It's exactly what a password is for. And yes, of course, human nature being what it is, there are always 'options'... I don't know of anything in particular; password hacks are out there, I don't know what works on a PDA. As nice as it might seem to offer help in this regard, if folks were to explain how to hack an Axim, wouldn't that be a disservice to all others here?
I'm not sure if you would need the password for this, but if there is important data on there, is there no backup that can be retrieved from another computer once the Axim is reset? Again, I do understand the frustration, but sometimes simply waiting a while and thinking it through - the password might come back to her. If the password is case sensitive, it can be another reason why it might not be working. Good luck.
