That depends on how large your files are. You can compress the music at different bit rates. If an average song takes up 5MB, for example--using your compression settings--then you'd be able to store 400 songs on a 2GB card (which will cost you around $150, by the way, in addition to the Axim). At 2.5MB per song, you'd obviously get 800 songs, and so on (with a decrease in quality as file size decreases).

If you truly expect to use the Axim only for music, I'd strongly recommend buying a Dell DJ instead. Lots more storage, cheaper and smaller. Then again, most of use the Axim for lots more things than just music.
