The problem is not what you are doing while you are on your Wi-Fi connection. It is that ANYONE can get on there and do whatever they want. The example that keeps comming up is with a "open" network, I can stand outside your house and surf kiddie porm under your IP address. When the cops come it will look like it was all you. And you will have a tough time proving otherwise.
You are better off putting some protection on just in case. If for no other reason you pay for your bandwith so why share with the rest of the people around you.
I have the same router. It can be set up pretty easy. At a minimum I would turn off the SSID by going into your router settings under "Wireless" and "basic wireless settings" change the raido button form "enable" to "disable". Then try your Axim and make sure it works. After that go back to your router settings and go under "Wireless" then "wireless security" and select "WEP" - "Default transmit key" can be left at "1" - Choose "64 bits 10 hex digits" form the pull down menu. Then type a "passphrase" in the box. Anything you want, kind of like a pass word. Then click the "Generate" button. Then connect your Axim and type in the "Key 1" when you get the prompt.
After that you should be good to go. Don't forget to do the "save settings" when you change anything in your router set up. Good Luck and let us know if you need more help~

*EDIT* See, in the time it took me to post this, someone already responded with the kiddie porn example!
