I get the majority of my software from Handango (they have a frequent buyer rewards program :) ). I have purchased from pocketgear with no trouble. Astraware has cool games. I am not big on chess, but you might enjoy their chess game - Rooks Revenge. It is a real time chess game... you don't take turns with the computer. You move as fast as you can :)
