The sound quality of Windows Media Player 10 should not be that bad. However the x50v is known to have not so good sound when first unpackaged.
There's a tweak on this forum, made by emulamer (a member) or something(i'm not sure about the spelling, sorry for that) that gives you the ability to change some of the basic EQ settings ( as in: Treble, Bass and Surround).
Many people find this tweak/plug fantastic!!
It's very easy to find (click on one of the first links in this forum that states "software and tweaks you need" or something in this vein, and you'll find the corresponding link.
