Java and Javascript are NOT the same thing at all. Javascript is a scripting (ie interpreted) language to enhance web pages apparence (like a dynamic menu or rollover pictures), and Java is a REAL compiled language used to create standalone applications. Those Java applications can then be packaged to be used from the web (applets), but enabling scripting feature in a browser will NEVER allow you to download and use Java applets (like a chat applet). For this you need a JVM (Java Virtual Machine).

And indeed, Netfront has a little JVM (JV-Lite 2) that runs some Java applets, but not all of them. Best bet is Netfront though.
