You may be experiencing a 'feature' on the Axim. If you hold the power button down for any significant length of time, it actually just puts the screen into a low light setting. To actually power off, press the button very quickly (and even this 'off' is a relative term since these units are always in a 'ready' state, more like in a sleep mode than off)
