Nokia phone connection by ir

Hi,

Have read your post with interest, I have a Nokia 8210 and have used this quite successfully with my Psion Revo to synch contacts and browse the net.

Trying to do the same with my Axim isn;t possible, however using a Nokia 8310 is fine, a siemens s55 is fine but not my nokia..

I have spoken to the Dell customer support (got through straight away) they recommended upgrading the Rom to A03.

When I asked will this solve the problem, the reply came "i'm not sure but its worth giving it a go"

When I mentioned that there appeared to be a lot of Dell customers experiencing the same problems as me the reply came back "I am not aware of any IR problems with the Axim"

I havn't tried this yet, I have tried the IR patch from Dell and this makes no difference whatsoever.

I heard somewhere that ir can be influence by certain types of lighting (artificial, strip lights for example) so i've tried to connect in various locations, again to no success.

Why does the IR port not work with certain nokia phones but does with others?

Do you need to have discoverable beaming on or off?

Do you need to have activesynch on or off?

I have tried to connect the two devices within a 4" to 8" range still no joy.

My axim connects and prints quite happily to my ir hp printer using Hp's freeware utility (hurrah for HP!!!!!!) (why didn't Microsoft/Dell bundle this with the Axim???)

Is my Axim faulty?

Am I asking too much of this piece of technology?

Am I insane (yep)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, being able to use my 8210 and my Axim was one of the main reasons I bought it...

Ho hum

Regards

Mark
