Document Manager

I usually like the challenges of a puzzle such as this, but I thought I'd throw out this question. Please let me know any ideas you might have for a solution.

I work in the medical field and have stacks of documents and journal articles that I'd like to have handy on my Axim for quick reference. Some of these documents are simple tables or charts. I'd like to scan them at home and carry them as a digital version that I can both view and send to printer at work (via IR). I've used Acrobat (PPC) for PDF's before and haven't had luck with getting it to view properly on the PPC. For home documents, I've been using Microsoft's MDI format for scanning home documents (sometimes TIFF, too). I know there's readers for both out there.

My question is if anyone had any experience to share or theoretical solutions for managing all these. Is adobe still my best bet? Hope not. What about MDI?
