Since it seems there isn't any way around it, I'm going to buy a charger off of ebay. I found

Does anyone know, if the battery is no longer functional, will the device still be operable when plugged in with this? I know my axim can only get power across the sync cable when the unit is turned off but is it the same when you use the wall outlet connector? I'd appreciate it if someone could get back to me before the auction ends (6 hours).
edit: I decided not to buy it, I'm not convinced that it'd be able to power the device while it's running and I don't want to think the whole thing is broken if only the battery is fried. I bid on a cradle that included the AC adaptor, but somebody outbid me. Guess it's back to square one.
another edit: I found a charger and new battery for $23 so I decided to go for it. Thanks for all your insights, they've been invaluable.
