Yep, the memory hit on listening to WAV files is just too great. I prefer Ogg Vorbis myself, with VBR encoding. I think it sounds better than MP3 for the same bitrate.
But I don't compress MPEGs any further, I find the Xvid compression is small enough with suitably high quality for TCPMP (Betaplayer).
