The only reason that Dell offers a backup battery is because the main battery is removeable (with obvious results if the machine doesn't have a backup). I remember my old CE 2.0 based Cassiopeia had one too, although the HP Jornada's don't. Difference? The Jornada's battery is fixed. The Cassiopeia ran off 2x AAA.
