synchronization cannot start....

I'm setting up my new Axim 30. I'm using the cd, but the activesync gives me the message "synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access necessary information. Restart this computer and synchronize again." I have restarted a zillion times, and looked all over this site and all over Microsoft's site for help. None found! I have Windows Office Professional 2003 if that helps. Please help me, I'm lost! Thanks
