For me it has nothing to do with headphones. I can use anything and its just the volume control in gsplayer. I can only get 0,4,7 on up. 0 or 4 = no volume. 7 = not soft enough for sleeping with.

Sorry that my post was not very clear. The volume control jumps with both sets of headphones. But the better of the two headphones is louder at "7" than the other set.
I played around with X50Mix (free
utility) and it has a separate headphone boost control that can turn down the loudnes at the "7" setting. After playing with it I was able to get a reasonable low volume setting at 7. It's a great equalizer too. Joe Bob sez check it out!
