You must reset the device whenever you change resolution. This limitation is imposed by the operating system. Note that you can dynamically rotate the display w/o resetting. For example, if you are in standard portrait mode (240x320) you can rotate to landscape but the virtual display resolution will still be 240x320. You have the option of stretching the display horizontally and compressing vertically to have it fit the physical display or you can scroll vertically.

Another option is to create a 320x320 virtual display. There is a option called "Resize Desktop" that repositions all open windows to fit within the physical display. There are a few caveats (some items cab become clipped with this option on) but the net effect is as if you are changing resolution on-the-fly.
