WMP10 for Pocket PC does indeed play .mp3's. www.newegg.com has some good prices on CF and SD cards.

The number of songs you could fit on a card really depends on how long the songs are and what compression format you are happy listening to. Most people enjoy 128Kbps files so I'd guestimate maybe 50 to 60 songs on a 256MB card if the songs are 3 minutes or less.
