"Why don't more people move, knowing that another one could destroy their home at any time?" You must live in fear of the next one coming. Of course, this is from people who have never lived in these areas.

I could ask the same about people who live in earthquake prone places. At least you have a pretty good idea of where a hurricane may go at least 24 hours in advance, earthquakes are still basically unpredictable. And hurricanes only occur during like a 5 month hurricane season while earthquakes can happen anytime of the year.
