Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your input. I'll try to answer what questions I can.
- There are several NVD icons which can be assigned to hardware buttons:
VD Settings Starts the Virtual Display Settings applet
VD Menu Shows the same popup menu you get by
double-clicking the gold dot.
VD Power Toggles display power on and off.
VD Previous Toggles between the current and last settings.
VD Restore Restores factory settings.
I like VD Menu the best as it gives me most of the options I need without going into the full Settings app.
- NVD's performance will vary considerably depending upon whether or not you are magnifying/demagnifying and by how much. By design, the internal and external displays will always have the same virtual resolution but they may have different magnification levels. When the Zoom is 100% you will see the best performance. In this case NVD can go straight to the hardware without having to perform intermediate, on-the-fly magnification. The worst case scenario would be to have both displays compressing a large virtual display to fit within there respective physical areas. As far as using the external display goes, you will see the best performance when you choose one of the external display Physical Modes and set the virtual display to be the same size (you will be prompted) and use the internal display in touch pad mode. Hope that all made sense.
- Yes the 2700g can support physical modes up to 1280x1024 but we were having some problems with that mode during testing. Intel is looking into this so hopefully we'll be able to support it in the final release.
Side note: The various external display vendors (Colographic, Margi, LifeView, Toshiba, Dell, etc.) have limited their focus to using a PDA as a presentation device but our goal is to enable a PDA to function as the primary (only?) computer for many users. All they really need is the ergonomics of a large display, pointing device and keyboard. The first two are supplied by one of the external display adapters mentioned above and NVD in touch pad mode. The latter has several options. Personally I'm using the Dell Executive Bluetooth keyboard (a rebranded Think Outside). Obviously this isn’t a solution for everyone but I’d like to hear your comments as to whether or not this is possible for some users and who they might be (e.g. traveling salesman, insurance adjusters, etc.).
Thanks again,
