In my opinion - YES - not that my opinion makes a difference, Dell still won't fix it, even under warranty.
Having said that, I haven't broken mine. When I unpacked my Axim, I took one look at the connector and knew, from experience with similar connectors on PCMCIA network adapter dongles, that the little metal locking tabs on the cable connector would break the connector on the Axim, so I bought a cradle, which doesn't use the lock tabs.
On the other hand, I suspect if enough unhappy users got together to create a class action suit, you might get somewhere with it.
