Is it possible to open lit files directly, rather than from within MS Reader?

I'd like to create a link on my Today screen to a couple of books I use a lot (EN-FR dictionary, for example), but clicking on the icon, or clicking on the lit file within File Manager, does not open the doc within MS Reader, but gives me an error message: 'cannot find 'docname' or one of its components'.

Is this a bug, or is the only way to open lit files to first open MS Reader? Is it possible to associate lit files with MS Reader?
