It imports my contacts and syncs email fine, but none of my collegues are in my contacts, the're in the global address list.

You probably don't want
everyone from the GAL in your contacts. It could be a huge list to sync, sort, and look up. Might fill up the space or it might be extremely slow to sort. I would pick the people from the GAL you normally send messages to and add them to your contacts. I think you can right click on them when they are in the to: field and "add to contacts". Don't have my exchange here, so you might have to play with that.
