Seems like there is always some deal on a 1GB SD card listed in the hardware bargain section. As far as the card reader goes, I just spent a lot of time trying to find the right one and I would recommend this reader from Sabrent. It will handle most every type of flash media out there plus you can use it as an internal (3.5" bay) or external reader. I bought mine from Newegg.com for around $20 delivered and even found a better deal last week. I'm getting one for my work computer as well. This site has it for around $16.00.

So far it has worked great. I comes with a cable that connects to the USB header on your motherboard (if available) and also has a cable extension that allows you to connect it to a regular USB 1.1 or 2.0 connection. I also read a lot of reviews and this one seemed to have almost all positive reviews. This link is to the manufacturers site:
