The Myth of overwriting OdClientCE.exe

Ok, think back to the days of PCs and Windows 3.1 or DOS.
If you could stop a driver from loading in your CONFIG.SYS that would save you some RAM but it would have no effect on your hard disk space.
If you could stop the driver from loading in your CONFIG.SYS and you could delete the file then that would save you RAM and hard drive space.

Well PocketPCs aren't like PCs because RAM and hard drive are interconnected.
A gain in RAM equals a gain in available storage space and a gain in storage space equals a gain in available RAM.

Someone cleverly discovered that if they overwrote the Odyssey client file in the Program Files\Funk Software folder that they received in increase in RAM.
Either they or someone else wrongly assumed that this was because the file was being "deleted" from the ROM and this led them to continue on and overwrite the same file in the Windows folder to supposedly get a 'double' gain.

But the 'delete' assumption was wrong.
Files in ROM can not be deleted.
Overwriting the file in the Funk Software folder stops the client from loading just like stopping a driver in your CONFIG.SYS.
Yes, you do get a gain in RAM but no, you don't get an increase in storage space (except that you do because it's a PocketPC and the two are interconnected).
Overwriting the same file in the Windows folder does not delete the file and it does not prevent anything from loading into RAM so there is no benefit whatsover from overwriting it.
In truth it is wasting RAM because you are creating a new file in RAM that serves absolutely no purpose.

If you need the Odyssey client you want to leave both files alone.
If you don't need the Odyssey client then you could overwrite the one in the Funk Software folder only.
If you overwrite one or both then your WiFi will still work but you will not be using the Odyssey client.
