Are you converting a DVD to WMV format? If so, I would use FairUse Wizard for that and then use Beta Player to play the resulting AVI file.
If you are just playing a video you downloaded I would suggest trying a soft reset to clear things out before you play the file. It could be that the file is just a poor quality.
