If you are just playing a video you downloaded I would suggest trying a soft reset to clear things out before you play the file. It could be that the file is just a poor quality.

hi, thank you for your reply.
the videos are from my Cannon digital still that also has the video mode. they are in avi form and then I use Windows Movie Maker to add effects etc.
You are able to save it in avi format but the files are huge.
I have reset etc. this has been a problem for months. I have never been able to play a wmv file in Beta either. The only way I even get a picture is by selecting the raw format in the video options, but the quality is uhhh, horrible! :)
