My guess (and this is ONLY a guess) was that the microphone jack was mono. And, I would still guess that that is the case. There's only one microphone on the Axim, right?
- If there's only one mic element, then you've got mono.
- If you can only hook up a single microphone, then you've got mono.
- If you're able to playback the sounds recorded with a single mic, but yet you hear them in both ears, then you have "dual mono" which isn't quite the same as stereo.

My guess (and again, I haven't done any of this) is that you've got a mono mic jack that will play back two-channel-mono. IOW, the same mono signal plays back in both ears.
