I could understand if a company was to hack their own software with such code and spread it around the file sharing circles as a "poison" but for the life of me I can't understand why someone would go to all the trouble of the described situation. Especially even taking the trouble to apply the same hack to all the different versions. And not only that, but this cross-platform virus can infect other downloaded versions even from legitimate sites.

Or am I misreading something here?
Well I can see why you'd think that for sure. It doesn't make sense. We certainly wouldn't gain anything from it. The thing is there were zillions of the files when I looked yesterday. As for cracking all versions well there is only one. We're on V1.00. Also we've contacted Handango about it to see if they could do something via their legal department. Pretty pointless if we put them there. These people are stealing but hard resetting ? Maybe somebody just has it in for us :0(
