.ics calendaring solutions? Yahoo?

Hi, I really want to have a way to sync my work PC, home PC and axim.I don't want to use outlook.

How do I do this?

In other words.

When I create an appointment in pocket informant, what is happening? Am I creating an .ics file(or some nonproprietary file) which is easy to import/export?

If I see an .ics file on a website, is there an easy way to drop it into my PC calendaring application? (Firefox, Mozilla Calendar, etc).

I try not to use OUtlook because I don't want to get caught in a MS only solution. Has anyone used Yahoo Calendar to sync between PCs and computers? How would you do that? That could be a graceful solution if it stayed online all the time.

Truthfully, I just don't understand how calendaring works in a nonOutlook world (and I don't really understand how it works in an Outlook world as well).

Can anyone recommend something, point to software recommendations or synchronization suggestions?

Thanks. Robert Nagle
