I used FairUse in the Divx 3.11 days and haven't tried it lately. It IS really easy to use but there are probably a lot of things you don't have control over.
AutoGordianKnot pretty much uses the same tools I use in my step-by-step process.
I like to have control over the entire encoding process so I:
1 -- Rip the DVD and Subtitles with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
2 -- Extract the Subtitles with VobSub 2.23
3 -- Parce the VOBs with DGIndex 1.4.3 ( .d2v & .ac3 )
4 -- Create an .avs script for processing / frame serving through AVIsynth 2.55
5 -- Preview processing, IVTC, decimation, dominate field, etc. with VirtualDub 1.6.10
6 -- Encode 2-pass Divx 5.2.1 ( I have issues with 6.0 crashing w/ VobSub ) with VirtualDub 1.6.10
7 -- Use BeSweet to mixdown AC3 to 2-ch or boost levels if necessary
8 -- Mux Video and AC3 with VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1
9 -- Resync subtitles with VobSub Resync ( if necessary for imbedded intros )
10 - Create ZoomPlayer .df & .asx playlist files and archive to DVDs.
My encode rates are about 28 frames per second on a P4 3.2 GHz frame serving through Decomb / DGIndex / AVIsynth using Fast Recompress. These files are large ( about 700MB for 45 minutes @ 720/640x480 ) but play fine on the Axim without re-encoding.
