I've come to believe some of these problems that start after ActiveSync was previously working are due to some of the 'upgrades' that M$ automatically loads onto WinXP. One thing I suggest is that you try to repair IE6 on your PC. There is a link to the procedure on this site
ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide. If the IE repair doesn't work, look through some of the other problems/solutions on the site.
