The first thing to do is edit the registry to remove any today items you don't intend to use. If one of those is a second party plugin (not built into the O/S) use the systems remove program dialog to remove it.

problem is that most of the today plugins I have are actually just side features of actual programs. for example vito sound explorer or conduits pocket player. I use these programs all the time.. just don't need the today screen plugin feature. there should've been an easy way to remove/disable the today feature for individual programs (so that it wouldn't take one of the 13 spots) without having to uninstall the whole program.
