Like MSAgent said, surround sound has nothing to do with the quality of the sound. It just has 5 channels of sound instead of 2(Stereo). You won't ever be able to experience surround sound correctly anyway unless you set up the 5 speakers in the right place relative to the listener. ALL HEADPHONES are stereo or mono. To have surround sound, the speakers HAVE to be a certain distance from the listener. That’s how you get the mix of the different sounds from different directions. Answering your question of the Axim having it, there are a couple of things that make it impossible.
1. The only output is a STEREO headphone jack. If you look on the jack you see large rings of metal surrounded by slivers of plastic. The headphone jack has only 3 different metal connectors one for left, right, and ???.
If anyone can tell me what the last ring is for it would be greatly appreciated :approve: . I believe that surround enabled devices use 5 different standard Audio cables, each connecting to different speakers.
2. Unless you have music that has 5 different channels of audio muxed in which most people don't, you have to have Dolby Surround or Digital or whatever they use nowadays. I know that regular Dolby Surround works by identifying different kHz frequency some how and determines which speaker to send it to. In this way, Dolby Surround enabled devices can take mono and stereo inputs and output it to 5 channels of sound. Unfortunately, this is mostly available on high end amplifiers where it can be enjoyed the most.
