How to convert HUGE MP3s to something more storable (audio)?

A lot of my MP3 files are huge on my main system. There a way to convert them to something playable on the Axim X50v without losing too much quality?

My I have a lot of MP3 files decoded using Media Player and the average MP3 is 6MB to 8MB. That's perty big compared to some older MP3's I have around 1MB to 3MB (I used Music Match Jukebox on the smaller ones, Windows Media Player likes to made em fat!).

Thing is I already have the MP3's on hard drive, a lot or huge in size. I would hate to have to scrounge up all my CDs again to re-rip em.
