I guess it depends on quality of the wifi connection and speed of your processor. Last week I was in NY on business (I live in the UK). I had my x50v with me, (and my k750i - but that costs a fortune to 'phone the UK roaming). My credit card had been stopped and I needed to find out what was going on (turned out it was my 'unusual usage pattern :)). I found a hotel lobby with wifi, connected and chatted for ages to barclaycard over skype, no problem. Hardly cost anyting. Quality wasn't quite a good as a cell 'phone but it was certainly good enough. I use skype a lot on my PC to call home from canada (we have offices there) and its really good on that. Skype IS better on a PC, but its ok on the x50v.
