Likely it is more difficult to develop iQue for NMEA as well for Garmin as there is always the rush to repackage new map data coming from Navtaq or Teleatlas. Somewhat like the example of Sony bringing in CF format for their digicam, it may not be easy given the extra time and development costs.
We Axim users are lucky in having all the options. Come map update time, we have choice of different software and map whereas proprietary format gps does not allow any comparison and third party option.
