Is there a usable RS232 compliant cable for the x50v? HyperTerminal-like software?

Does anybody make an RS232 compliant cable for the x50v yet? One that uses the real +/-12v voltages, probably has an external power connection...not one of the cables that only goes to a GPS unit, or only goes to a cell phone, but one that does bidirectional REAL RS232 serial signals? Has anybody bought and used one successfully?

And while I'm on the subject...
How about a program like Windows HyperTerminal that would be compatible with the cable mentioned above? I've got the eVb package loaded up into the laptop and have made a few simple-ish programs for the x50v (I know my way around VB and VC, but prefer VB even though it's outdated). I haven't been able to figure out how eVb does it's serial comm's, it's probably staring me right in the face and I've missed it or it's just not there.

I do a lot of interfacing stuff with Microchip PIC's and Atmel types. It would be nice to have a generic interface to work with (controlling a circuit thru a serial port) instead of designing a custom keypad and LCD everytime I start a new project.

That is unless somebody has a better way that's quick and dirty to get I/O from the Axim...
Lo-speed bi-direction IR? Too slow and short range
Wireless 802.11b? Too much hardware at the other end, too much programming at the Axim end
I even thought about trying to use the headphone/microphone jack and a sort of bi-directional DTMF setup...far far too slow.
