I had noticed the planetary shield thing but then forgot about it. Good catch. I vaguely recall being able to build the shield only on my home world, not captured planets. But I could be wrong, maybe it doesn't work at all.
I had not noticed the rocket/beam bug. I never check stats of an opposing planet after an attack. An even better catch.
They've been very quick to respond so far and hopefully the patch will clear up much of this.
Another poster in this thread said this looked "pushed out the door" and I disagreed. But now I'm thinking, perhaps he was right

. Still, its a fun game at its core and we'll see how these kinks are resolved. I'm hopeful based on their responsiveness. I may send them a detailed list tonight of interface tweaks I'd love... as they prepare the patch.
Meantime, have you seen that the game also includes the original PC game? It has no AI, just an email game. Looks interesting.
