I was having the same problems with BSOD and USB. I could only sync with Infrared, but that was sooo slow. I was about to send back my x51v and tell Dell not to release products till they had done some thorough testing, when I stumbled across this website below.
ActiveSync Help and How Tos
Imagine my suprise, an actual web page that was helpful at
www.microsoft.com
Followed the advice ... no more BSOD. I have been sync'ing fine for 2 days now.
So summary for those that don't want to read all that!
ActiveSync 4 uses the TCP stack, and therefor creates a network connection with the Windows Mobile Device (In my case the Axim).
1) Disable firewall or configure firewall to allow ActiveSync to talk across TCP ports.

Note: ActiveSync files include:
*Wcesmgr.exe
*Wcescomm.exe
*Rapimgr.exe
*Ceappmgr.exe
ActiveSync also uses the following TCP ports for communication to/from these processes:
*990
*999
*5678
*5679
*5721
*26675

2) Bring up the Properties page for the Windows Mobile Device Network Connection, and unbind (remove the check) from everything except the following.
|
Quote:
|
* Client for Microsoft Networks
* File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
* Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

3) I don't know if a reboot pf the PC and a soft reset of the Axim are necessary, but I did them for good measure. Then I attempted a USB sync with success for the first time.
Finally if you've done the above and are still having trouble, check for applications that play with the TCP stack (Network Utilities, Parental Control software, etc.) and figure out how to unbind them from the Network Connection the isn't.
Hope this helps, I am off to actually make my Axim a useful time waster. :approve:
