Okay, I'm going to attempt to answer everything here - if I miss one, sorry.
bobby9621: Yes, I am brave, crazy and nuts! And I will be honored if one of my students ever says I was the best math teacher they ever had, because that is what I want to be when I grow up.
Frenchy: I do agree that teaching is an art, but more the art of discipline than of content. Discipline for the students, AND the teacher - the dedication type of discipline. :)
Kool Breeze: No, I'm not a black belt, but I'd like to learn karate or some other martial art someday when I'm out of grad school and have time. :hide: And I learned the military alphabet in boot camp - Army vet. I hung up my BDUs in Jan '96 and I can't claim to be mild-mannered. :) The kids would eat me up. I have to admit, I like your mental image though. Kind of like Superman or Wonder Woman.
OklahomaMama: Thanks for saying so. It's always nice to hear that my chosen profession is liked by someone else too. And congrats on your prodigy-boy. Most kids don't even want to go to school these days, much less excel at anything!
dfmclore: Someday I'll explain how I wound up in math, but not now because this post is shaping up to be long enough as it is. And, no, no semper fi here, Waterborne! all the way. :) I was in the Army's boat field - watercraft operator - boat driver to the civilians in the group.
rsaturn9: Thanks!
BrickCityAxim: I agree that a teacher needs some natural ability - it's almost like a calling for the best of them. Good teaching is about 90% love & discipline and 10% content.
To all: I'm sorry I missed this whole conversation while it was going on. I was keeping my neighbor company - he had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago and isn't allowed to do much, so he's going nuts. I try to go over there a couple of times a week because his wife works a lot of evenings and I know she worries about him being home alone. Plus, they feed me - good news for a "starving college student." :)
. . . and, I'm spent!
