Uninstalled, removed all traces with regedit, reboot, install 3.8 and nada. So now I have a WM5 paperweight with no data or user installed programs. Even tried BT but that's problematic as well.
Any ideas as to why 3.8 won't connect so I can roll back?

unfortunately It's the way Uncle Bill made it... 3.8 wont connect to a WM5 ppc
