That is true, and can be seen in PhatPad, which has a "Classic Menus" option. When you choose that option, the two softkeys dissappear and the good old PhatPad menu comes back. As soon as I installed PhatPad after upgrading to WM5, I found the tho softkeys were terribly useless, and I think Phatware made an excellent choice making the traditional menus available.
