Let me try to help.
Streets and Trips is for the desktop. You make maps and transfer them to the pda. S & T can be used w/a gps receiver to give voice directions etc. That's new for '06 so I have no experience w/it.

Pocket Streets can be used w/gps but it will only show you where you are and where the points of interest are. I like this program, in my opinion it is useful.

I also use tomtom for gps.

Gps software costs alot more than streets, but it gives you alot more. Streets is very cool in conjunction w/pocket streets. I make maps w/pushpins of my customers and print them out. I also download the maps to my pda. This is different than gps, but useful in my opinion.
