WM5 Memory Use Explaination
I got my x51v which has WM5 on it. Now I know that WM5 now stores all programs and data in the flash ROM (256MB) rather than the RAM(64MB). But I don't understand how the RAM works.
First of all, the memory starts out by saying that there is really only 49.5MB of RAM total. OK -- I can understand that if the OS kernel and drivers etc remove from that and take 14.5 MB of space. No big deal. But what I don't get is that on bootup if I look immediately at free memory there is only 30MB free at best case scenario. I can't believe the Today screen and plugins take 19.5MB of RAM, and 34MB of RAM usage by the OS seems pretty extreme.
The only other theory I can think of for this is a cache memory set aside, similar to Windows on desktop. Windows might have 400 of 512MB allocated for cache, but Windows can adjust on the fly so while 400 is taken up by cache that is flexible so it can be considered like free memory.
Does anyone have a detailed knowledge of how the RAM system works in WM5? This is for my curiousity only, since it seems that 30MB is well more than enough to run all of my apps.
