It sounds to me like the Circuit City guy either didn't know what he was talking about, or wanted you to buy a really expensive Sony, which isn't even a Pocket PC, it's a Palm! Bluetooth does work on the Axim, as well as Wifi.
Sorry I got you so confused with the connecting the Axim to the internet thing. That was me that talked about the circuit data switch. If your phone has an IR port, you can connect through it, but the connection isn't very fast or reliable using a cell phone, especially if you are using hte IR port. Doing a quick search on the AT&T site, it looks like you can connect through them using the mMode service. But I don't know for sure, sorry.
Lastly, games, games games. I use my Axim for games more than anything else. However, I also watch movies, compose emails, and organize my school schedule. For games, I really like using PocketNester to play the old Nintendo games. It really is a blast.
