[I have had the same issue. I decided this morning that it might be my Magicstor 2gb drive. I removed the drive this morning, the battery life has been fine today, but still had to reset the Ax once today to get it to come to life. This (needing reset) happens if I click "stop" in active sync on the desktop app. The Axim seems to sync multiple times when left in the cradle, so I sometimes have to stop it.]
I put the magicstor back in today. The battery was at 100% when I left for work at 2:00pm. When I tried to use the Axim at 8:00pm the battery was completely dead and I had to use a travel charge cable to even use the device at work. This issue definitely has to do with memory-I think the excessive battery drain may be due to the magicstor being an actual mini hard drive and requiring even more power than a cf or sd card. Anyone have any ideas?
