Well for me, it's primarily because of my GPS software (OCN5) which is REALLY memory hungry. I keep around 40mb free which is a bit overkill, but that way I can run a number of apps at the same time with no worries.

As long as you have space, go ahead and install to main memory. At some point you might run out, though. I originally installed most all programs to RAM, but after a hard reset and installing OCN decided to install to BIS and SD.
