The processor has to have somewhere to offload and load data...that's the ram, and if you don't have enough of it, the processor gives up and the PDA can lock up. Mapping software such as Tomtom5 and OCN5 require roughly 20 megs of free ram before they will run properly, not to mention the fact that 4-5 megs of free ram won't get you far if you try to open more than one program at a time.
