It's not the backup file per se that is bad; if it were, you would not be able to restore at all. Did you make the backup right before you did your hard reset? If so, you merely restored back the old problem. That's why it's good to do regular backups, not only before a hard reset. If you don't have any other backups to restore to, I would just manually reinstall.
